Good conversation, your troubles from the day, the remote control to change the channel when your favorite show comes on, a tasty contribution to the meal,... Well, at our dinner table it's a little different.
Reagan brings his current favorite book. Joshua brings his current Lego creation. And, Zoe often brings at least one baby doll.
It hit me tonight as I sat down, looked across the table, and saw Reagan with a book in his lap and Joshua playing with a Lego vehicle of some kind - we often bring what's most important to us to our evening family meal. I hope you sit down to eat with your family on a regular basis. Michael's job allows us to do this most nights, and we count that as a true blessing. But, what do we bring to these priceless family occasions? Tonight my children brought what was near and dear to them. I need to remember to do that myself and bring thoughtful conversation - not thoughtless criticism, spiritual encouragement - not a day's worth of complaints, and ears ready to listen - not a mouth determined to talk only about "grown-up things" after a full day with the children.
Thank you to my children for the visual reminder that we should always bring what's most important with us when we come together as a family! (BTW, they set their toys aside and we had a great meal together!)
